The Birth of Asia Pacific Deaf Sports Confederation
On 27 March 1988, the Asia Pacific Deaf Sports Confederation (APDSC) came into formal existence. On that day, in the presence of representatives from Australia, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Kuwait and Malaysia, the formation of the APDSC was discussed. The APDSC Status Ad-hoc Committee was set up with the assistance of the Commit International des Sports des Sourds (CISS) President, Mr John Michael Lovett (Australia), Ms Wendy Homes (Australia) and Mr Park In Gi (Korea) to promote Deaf sports awareness and developments in the Asia Pacific region. Ms Wendy Homes was appointed administrator of the APDSC and tasked to look into the status of the organization and work with the CISS. the APDSC Status was then tabled for approval at the following APDSC Congress in Seoul, Korea, in 1992.

Following the formation of APDSC, a resolution was passed to change the name of the Asia Pacific Deaf Soccer Championships to the Asia Pacific Deaf Games , reflecting the expansion of the event to include other sports.


Asia Pacific Deaf Games

The Asia Pacific Games of the Deaf, held every four every in a host country in Asia Pacific region, aim to advance the development of sport, culture and education in the Asia Pacific countries, The Games also promote international respect, friendship, goodwill and peace through the sporting realm.

In addition, these Games also provide a platform for qualifying rounds for countries which aim to participate in the Deaflympic Games. With the rising popularity of sports in the Asia Pacific , an increasing number of countries has been participating in the Games over the decades.

It was also decided that for the fourth edition of the Asia Pacific Deaf Games in 1992, to be held to South Korea, one new event was added - table tennis. The two sporting events for the 1992 Games would be football and table tennis.

4th Asia Pacific Deaf Games 1992 Seoul Korea +
Under its new name, the 4th Asia Pacific Deaf Games was held in Seoul, Korea from 18 to 26 April 1992.

Organized by the Korean Deaf Sports Federation, the participating countries for this Games were Australia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Korea, Malaysia and Chinese Taipei.

There were about 300 participants for the two included sports - football and table tennis. In terms of number of countries and participants, this was a leap from previous editions of the Games. Iran won the football championship, while Japan triumphed in both the men's and woman's table tennis competitions.

5th Asia Pacific Deaf Games 1996 Kuala Lumpur Malaysia +
The 5th Asia Pacific Games was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 29 March to 7 April 1996.

The participating countries were Australia, Bangladesh, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Kazakhstan, Korea, Kuwait, Macau, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, and Chinese Taipei. with four sports, a total of 16 countries and about 500 participants, this was yet another significant increase from previous Games.

6th Asia Pacific Deaf Games 2000 Taipei City Chinese Taipei +
The 6th Asia Pacific Games for the Deaf was held in Taipei City, Chinese Taipei, from 30 October to 8 November 2000.

More countries joined the Games, which featured eight sports, for the first time. The record 19 participating countries were Bangladesh. China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Khazakhstan, Korea, Kuwait, Macau, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Chinese Taipei, Thailand and Uzbekistan.

The number of participants hit a milestone high of about 1,000.

7th Asia Pacific Deaf Games 2012 Seoul Korea +
After a 12-years absence, the 7th Asia Pacific Deaf Games was finally held from 19 to 26 May 2012 in Seoul, Korea

Organized by the Korean Deaf Sports Federation, this edition of the Games was the fruit of the efforts of the Deaf sporting community in the Asia Pacific countries over the preceding years, A record 13 sports were featured, as well as a demonstration sport, baseball, one of the popular sports in Korea. About 1,208 participants from 25 countries showed up for the Games, which set another record.

8th Asia Pacific Deaf Games 2015 Taoyuan Chinese Taipei +
The 8th Asia Pacific Deaf Games 2015 Taoyuan was successfully held from 3 to 11 October 2015.

Organized by the Chinese Taipei Association Sports of the Deaf, this Games featured 12 different sports, one less than the previous edition. There were about 1,170 participants from 23 Asia Pacific countries.

9th Asia Pacific Deaf Games 2019 Hong Kong China +
The 2019-20 Hong Kong protests led to the cancellation of the 9th Asia Pacific Deaf Games, which were initially scheduled to take place in Hong Kong in 2019.

The Asia Pacific Deaf Sports Confederation and the Hong Kong Games Organising Committee jointly agreed to the cancellation because the latter could not guarantee the safety and well-being of athletes, officials, and supporters.

Hong Kong, China Sports Association of the Deaf has requested that the “2019 Hong Kong 9th Asia Pacific Deaf Games 2019” be commemorated. The APDSC Executive Board has endorsed its request.

10th Asia Pacific Deaf Games 2024 Kuala Lumpur Malaysia +
The 13th APDSC Congress, originally scheduled to be held in Tehran, Iran in October 2024, were cancelled due to growing tensions in the Middle East and other challenges.

The games were subsequently relocated to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and held from December 1 to December 8, 2024. The 13th APDSC Congress was also moved to Kuala Lumpur, taking place alongside the games.
